French court dismisses racist claims against Georges Bensoussan

A court in Paris on Tuesday found leading French Holocaust historian Georges Bensoussan not guilty of racial incitement for declaring that Arab families in France imbibe antisemitism with their mothers’ milk.

The civil action was brought by the Committee Against Islamophobia in France (CCIF).

Bensoussan was speaking in an interview on the France-Culture radio station in 2015.

He was quoting the Algerian sociologist Smaïn Laacher, who he stated had said that it was “a disgrace to maintain this tabou that in Arab families in France, and everyone knows it but no one wants to say it, antisemitism is imbibed with the mother’s milk.”

Since the interview, it has been noted that a number of leading Muslim intellectuals including Boualem Sansal, Kamel Daoud, Fethi Benslama and Riad Sattouf, have drawn attention to the same phenomenon in their writings without facing a court process.
