French nurse posthumously honoured by Yad Vashem

A French nurse who hid Jews in an abbey in northern France during the Nazi occupation has been posthumously honoured with the award of Righteous of the Nations by Yad Vashem.

Thirty years after her death, families of those saved came to the Abbey of Valloires to honour the memory of Thérèse Papillon, who founded a religious order nursing to the sick and providing hostel to those fleeing oppression.

Today, the abbey continues to provide shelter for disadvantaged youth.
