CRIF "astounded" that antisemitism aspect of Halimi murder dropped

The CRIF umbrella organisation of French Jews, the country’s EJC affiliate, has expressed shock at the removal of any antisemitic intent from the charge sheet against Kabili Traoré for the aggravated homicide of Sarah Halimi.

“We are deeply dismayed at the decision to drop the antisemitism aspect at this stage when it has been perfectly well established by Kabili Traoré’s unequivocal statements and attitude,” CRIF said in a statement issued on Thursday.

CRIF Francis Kalifat has called upon the judicial authorities, the Minister of Justice, the Public Prosecutor and the investigating judge “to assume their responsibilities with clarity and courage,” the statement concluded.

Sarah Halimi, 67, was beaten and murdered in her Paris apartment in April. From Traaoré’s statements, it is clear she was targeted because of her Jewishness, and the accused recited verses of the Quran both before and after he killed her.
